Pope Leo XIV
Pope Leo XIV is the 267th Bishop of Rome and the first American-born pontiff in the history of the Catholic Church. Born Robert Francis Prevost on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, he was elected to the papacy on May 8, 2025, succeeding Pope Francis. A member of the Order of Saint Augustine, he is recognized for his extensive missionary work in Peru and his reputation as a "listening leader" focused on pastoral care and institutional peace.

Early Life and Education
Raised on Chicago’s South Side in a family of diverse heritage—French, Italian, Spanish, and Louisiana Creole—Prevost attended Villanova University, where he earned a B.A. in Mathematics. He entered the Augustinian order in 1977 and was ordained a priest in Rome in 1982. He holds a Doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas.
Missionary Work and Leadership
The majority of his ministry was spent outside the United States, primarily as a missionary in Trujillo, Peru. He served as the Prior General of the worldwide Augustinian order for two terms (2001–2013) before being appointed Bishop of Chiclayo by Pope Francis in 2014. In 2023, he returned to Rome as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, a role crucial in vetting the world's church leaders.
