Choir & Liturgical Ministry
Syriac, Arabic, and English chant
Sacred chant is one of the defining spiritual and liturgical elements of the Maronite tradition. At St. Elias, the Divine Liturgy is enriched through the preservation of Syriac, Arabic, and English chant, reflecting both the ancient heritage of the Maronite Church and the linguistic diversity of the parish community. Syriac, a dialect of Aramaic spoken by Jesus Christ, remains deeply woven into the liturgical life of the Church and serves as a living connection to the early Christian tradition of Antioch.
The use of chant throughout the Qurbono creates a prayerful and contemplative atmosphere that emphasizes reverence, beauty, participation, and continuity across generations. Through sacred music and communal responses, the congregation joins together in worship, prayer, and spiritual reflection.
Choir leadership
The choir ministry plays a central role in supporting the spiritual life and liturgical worship of the parish. Choir leadership at St. Elias is dedicated to preserving the richness of the Maronite musical tradition while encouraging participation from parishioners of all ages and backgrounds.
Choir members assist in leading the congregation through hymns, responses, feast day celebrations, funeral liturgies, Holy Week services, and major sacramental celebrations. The ministry also contributes to preserving traditional melodies, teaching younger generations, and strengthening the continuity of the Syriac-Antiochian chant tradition within the parish community.
Liturgical service
Liturgical service at St. Elias reflects the beauty, reverence, and sacred symbolism of the Maronite tradition. Parish volunteers assist in various aspects of worship including altar serving, scripture readings, processions, hospitality, incense preparation, feast day coordination, and support during major liturgical celebrations.
These ministries help foster a prayerful environment while encouraging active participation in the spiritual life of the Church. Through service, parishioners contribute to the dignity of the Divine Liturgy and strengthen the communal spirit of worship, hospitality, and shared faith within the parish.
